Moss 2010 - funding 3rd world water projects

The MOSS crew is preparing for the fifth annual MOSS Jam in March 2010, where old school skateboarders from across the country will be getting together to raise money in support of third world water projects. MOSS is looking for partners to support our ongoing work in Swaziland. MOSS, and the third world water project, has received ongoing media attention and our profile continues to grow. We have featured on the ABC Stateline program, Radio National, Triple R, The Age, The Herald Sun, Inside Sport and hundreds of families attended this event. Get on board with MOSS this year and be associated with an incredibly great cause that gets bigger and better every year ( a bit like an old school skateboarder!)

MOSS Jam '09.02 - MOSS gets it on!

After a small sacrifice to the rain gods saw the MOSS Jam ‘09.02 finally kick off at a sun drenched Frankston skate park, it turned out to be a massive day with great skating and a great vibe.

Internationally renown skateboarder, and all round good guy, Tony Hawk and wild man Kevin Staab made it to the MOSS Jam just in time for a swim. The kids of Frankston were stoked and a bunch of very good looking men stopped to pose with the big guy...

MOSS Breaks the Drought!

The presence of international and interstate rollers was not enough to hold the rain off and months of rain free days came to an end on the day of the MOSS Jam! The crew did manage a quick roll between cloud breaks late in the day, check the pics here. Plans were in place to move the event indoors should rain have arrived but the promise of the rain blowing over tempted organisers to hold off moving the Jam, only to be drenched by the next passing cloud!

The program for the MOSS Jam ’09 has been confirmed. Karl Easterway will be attempting to break the world record long jump on a skateboard, and Rob ‘Wedge’ Francis will attempt to break the Australian 360’s record on Saturday at Frankston. Be there to witness history being made!!!

Friedman Flyer Surfboards has donated a very nice looking surfboard to the Children of Swaziland.
The board is 6'9" long and built for speed. Thruster, double concave, full resin tint colours. The Melbourne Old School Skateboarders are gearing up for the upcoming jam in March 2009. The MOSS water for Swaziland project is aiming in 2009 to raise enough money to buy and install at least three tanks for villagers. Tanks cost approximately $6000 AUS to purchase and the MOSS Water Project is looking for sponsors to help reach the target. MOSS Water Project have a track record in delivering and installing water tanks to Swaziland, to date four water tanks have been purchased, delivered and installed with the monies raised from the annual MOSS jam. Before these people had a water tank, babies were dying of water born diseases from being fed formula made with dirty bore water. Girls had to walk up to 5 miles to get that dirty water from the only bore in the area. The water comes out of the bore slowly, so they had to queue up for the water and then carry it back home. Just collecting water took them so long that there was no time for school.

Now the government will fill up the tank with clean water. They would have supplied water before, but there was nowhere to store it.

(For those that don’t know, “MOSS” or Melbourne Old School Skate Sessions is a group of middle-aged skateboarders. Every year an Old School Skate “Jam” is held at a different skate bowl in Melbourne. Old School Skateboarders come from all over Australia for a weekend of celebration of their mid-life crisis, reminiscing, music, fun and skateboarding.)
